WE sent out an appeal for young gardeners to enter our competition and had a quick response from Gerrie Chivers, who nominated her seven-year-old daughter Chloe Heighton for Young Gardener of the Year.
Gerrie said when they moved into their house in Arden Way, Harborough, four years ago, Chloe was quick to ask for a little patch of her own in the garden and it was the only time she has been known to have a temper tantrum to get her own way.

So an area was fenced off for her, which she has tended ever since.

Gerrie (39) said Chloe has always shown an interest in gardening, so much so she entered her in our gardening award two years ago, when she achieved second place.

This year Chloe wanted a pretty garden at their home in Arden Way, Harborough, with lots of colourful flowers, so she bought seeds which were a huge disappointment to her as most of them didn't do anything and the slugs ate the ones that did.

She did get a little upset but, determined to have a pretty garden, once again she visited the garden centre and bought some plants, mainly red and peach-coloured ones. Last year Chloe grew tomatoes and a huge pumpkin, which she decorated at Halloween.

Chloe goes to Husbands Bosworth Primary School and although they don't have a school garden at the moment she is hoping they will get one started so she can help with it.
