PARK users are being invited to have their say about options for a £75,000 expansion to car parking facilities at a popular town leisure spot.
Harborough District Council wants to increase car parking spaces at Harborough's Welland Park which it says is needed due to more people using the children's play area at the park following a £300,000 revamp last year.
The council has drawn up two options of how to create more parking spaces and is inviting feedback from residents on the best way forward.
What do you think? Email the newsdesk at alex.blackwell@harboroughmail.co.ukl Option one includes putting 21 spaces within the park at the Farndon Road entrance.
It would take up a section of unused grassland and would be near to the new play area.
Alterations to the entrance would be carried out and a one-way system within the car park would operate. Columns would be built with the aim of creating an attractive new entrance.
l Option two includes extending the existing car park off Welland Park Road by 30 spaces.
The plan would involve building over two of the park's tennis courts with two new courts then built on grassland to ensure no tennis court provision is lost.
With both options, the council says the car park would be closed overnight.
Cllr Michael Rook, the council's portfolio holder for environmental delivery, said: "The new play area has proved very popular with children and their families, which has led to a need for more spaces.
"Our preferred choice is option one because it is close to the play area and because it would help alleviate parking problems on Farndon Road but we are asking for comments to get wider views.
"The park is a valuable open space for residents so we hope to get plenty of feedback on how it should be developed."
The deadline for comments is July 31 and they can be sent to the council's landscape officer John Parrott via phone on 01858 821282, email at j.parrott@harborough.gov.uk or by writing to Mr Parrott at Harborough District Council, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough, Leics, LE16 7AG.
