Read below to find out more about your candidates for the Leicestershire County Council seats.

A total of 24 candidates from five political parties have been nominated across the seven county council electoral divisions in Harborough district and residents go to the polls on Thursday, June 4.

Across the county there are 54 seats on the county council from seven districts and the present split is 31 Conservative members, 12 Labour and 11 Liberal Democrats.

The count will then take place on Friday, June 5, from 11am
at Harborough District Council's offices.

The Leicestershire County Council candidates are:

BROUGHTON ASTLEY (also covers Ashby Magna, Ashby Parva, Dunton Bassett, Frolesworth and Leire)

Bill Liquorish (Con)

"I have represented this division since 2005 and also represent Broughton on Harborough Council. I have been a magistrate for 24 years.

Since retiring as a senior technician with BT I devote my time to my constituents.

I want to continue to help improve services efficiently and cost-effectively for crime, social services and education.

We spend your money and have to be very careful how we do that whilst protecting and improving services.

We have a commitment to keep Council Tax down."

Peter Ranson (Lab)

"I have lived in Broughton Astley for over 20 years. As a loyal Labour Party member for 35 years, I feel let down by the minority of MPs of all parties who have claimed unjustified expenses.

Thankfully, this is not a problem in local government. I urge everyone to vote on Leicestershire issues on June 4. I fear that we are facing huge cuts in expenditure in the county and worry that services we take for granted are at risk."

BRUNTINGTHORPE (also covers Arnesby, Catthorpe, Cotesbach, Fleckney, Gilmorton, Husbands Bosworth, Kimcote, Walton, Knaptoft, Misterton with Walcote, Mowsley, North Kilworth, Peatling Magna, Peatling Parva, Shawell, Shearsby, South Kilworth, Swinford, Westrill and Starmore and Willoughby Waterleys)

Dr Elaine Carter (Lab)

"I have lived in Arnesby for 10 years. As someone who lives in a village I know what the issues are. I am concerned about environmental issues, both globally and in the way they affect us locally. We need affordable housing so young people can stay in the villages, and better bus services.

"In the current difficult economic climate I would work to ensure we maintain the services that are vital for the most vulnerable in society, children and the elderly."

Graham Hart (Con)

"I have lived in Willoughby Waterleys for 24 years, playing an active part in the community, and have represented the county council since 2005. I am a district councillor for Peatling and the chairman of HDC's Scrutiny Panel.

I am determined to do my utmost to promote the success and well-being of all businesses, commercial and agricultural, within my patch. There is an ever-pressing need to improve facilities for young and old alike."

Sharon Morris (Lib Dem)

"I have been a campaigner since 1980, when the Fleckney Mother and Toddler Group campaigned to improve Fleckney play area. I became actively involved in working for the community when the council was building the leisure centre.

I am deeply committed to working for the benefit of residents, ensuring that value for money is key.
