Sports Awards 2009

WELCOME to the Harborough Mail Sports Awards 2009.
We hold this event every year to give public recognition to the stars of the grassroots sporting scene in the Harborough and Lutterworth areas.

We asked our readers to nominate the winners and the top achievers at their club, in their sport or simply people they know, maybe who live in their street or go to their school. Of course, they could also nominate themselves.

Nominations have now closed and details of all the entrants can be seen by following the link on the right. You can vote for your favourites by completing the form in this week's Harborough Mail and Lutterworth Mail. But hurry, the deadline for voting forms to reach our office is 4pm on Monday, December 7.

The top three in each category will be invited to a presentation dinner on Wednesday, December 16, at Harborough Leisure Centre, when the winners will announced and presented with their awards.

We were looking for the people who deserved an accolade for the tremendous effort they put in.
But it wasn’t just the players we wanted to hear about – it was also those behind the scenes such as the coaches, the groundsmen, the organisers, and of course, mums and dads, who make it possible for others to enjoy their sport.

To be eligible for the only Sports Awards event aimed exclusively at people in this area, nominees had to live within the area of Leicestershire and Northants covered by the Harborough Mail and Lutterworth Mail, or compete for a club in the area.

Each category is sponsored by a local business and a representative from each sponsor will present the winner of each award with their trophy
