A VOLUNTEER youth worker has been recognised for six years of working with youngsters.

Jude Campbell, who is leader of Desborough Youth Club, recently scooped Northamptonshire’s Youth Club Leader of the Year award, beating more than 200 other county volunteers to the title.

The club meets in Paddock Lane, Desborough, three nights a week, and has activities such as outdoor games, crafts, consoles and holidays for young people ranging from the ages of eight to 17.

The award was made as part of Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs’ annual dinner, and it caps a top year for the leader.

She said: “I have to say I feel quite proud.

“It’s not just me though, the youngsters put a lot of effort into the club, and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have received the award.

“The past six years have been really hard work, but it is so worth it.

“There is little affordable facilities for young people in Desborough, especially for the families with more than one child.

“It gives them a chance to stay off the streets, meet different people and improve their life skills.”

Naj Mistry, of NAYC, paid tribute. He said: “There were 200 to 300 youth leaders to choose from so it was a tough category to win.

“The work that has been done at Desborough Youth Club is remarkable. I put forward Jude as I think she has been really good to inspire and push young people into following their interests.”
