Take part in some festive Freeusing and aid recycling

PEOPLE in the Harborough district looking for unusual gifts – or who are planning a clear-out before Santa brings new ones – are being encouraged to take advantage of a free give-and-take website.

The website www.freeuseit.org enables Leicestershire residents to upload items they no longer want – and others to claim them and take them home for free.

The website has already enabled around 120 tons of waste to be diverted from landfill since it was set up in December 2009. It is run by the Leicestershire Waste Partnership, which is made up of County Hall, Harborough District Council and other district and borough councils, and supported by Leicester City Council.

Items listed include board games, a mini hi-fi system and an Ikea double bed.

Waste partnership chairman Guy Jackson said: “Freeusing over the festive period is a great way to either find quirky gifts or make space for new ones.

“We hope people will have a look at the website and help make this Christmas a green one.”

A free Freeuse smartphone app is now also available.
