A SAFETY-concious Foxton pupil won a competition to design a banner warning motorists to slow down outside his school.

Isaac Taylor (6), of Foxton Primary School will see his banner put up outside the school after winning the design contest, run by school uniform company Recognition Express Leicestershire.

He also won for his school high-visibility drawstring bags for each pupil as well as 200 ‘star writer’ pencils.

The youngster was awarded a special Star Award along with the 2m by 1m banner bearing his winning design at a special school assembly last Thursday.

Head teacher Phil Clark said: “We are keen to raise awareness about road safety amongst our pupils and this competition has been a great way to get them thinking about it.

“The children have made such a huge effort and we’re so proud of them. It is very fitting that Isaac should win this competition as he is very aware of speeding traffic because he and his mum cycle three miles to school every day.”

The competition was held to coincide with Road Safety Week, which is this week.

Katie Shephard, fundraising manager at the Brake road safety charity, said: “Congratulations to Isaac and Foxton Primary. The children have really embraced the issue of road safety through this competition, and their designs and messages are so powerful.”
