RUNNERS from Harborough raised hundreds of pounds for charity when they conquered the Leicester Half-marathon.

Friends Claire Rice and Fran Harrison (pictured right) both work at The Gables Residential Home in Leicester Road, Harborough, and wanted to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The half marathon was held on October 14.

Fran said: “We were very lucky with the weather, it was a beautifully sunny and, thankfully, dry day.”

Claire completed the marathon in two hours and Fran in two hours ten minutes.

Fran added: “The marshals and the crowds were very motivational and supportive throughout the run with all the cheering on the day.

“We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and all of our family and friends for their support.”

Claire said: “We decided to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK because they are a charity that work closely with the elderly to find cures for dementia.”

Donations can still be made at the website www.justgiving.com/franpaigeclaire. They have already raised about £230.
