No flooding this time

AS a local resident, businessman and, most of all, as an engineer, it gladdened my heart when the rain came pouring down, the rivers swelled, the wettest April in a century was announced and . . . no overflowing drains, no flooding, no chaos in Harborough.

I think we owe a huge thank-you to the engineers of Severn Trent for their sterling work in designing what is clearly a very effective flood alleviation scheme for the town (and, no, I had nothing to do with it).

We may have complained when they dug up the High Street and the Commons car park, but boy was it worth it, and wouldn’t we have complained even louder if the town flooded again?

Well done and thank you Severn Trent.
