Have your say on our vital ambulance service now
LAST month, my father had a stroke.
Within two minutes of making the 999 call, a paramedic had arrived. Two minutes later, an ambulance came to take him to hospital. Luckily, we live near the Harborough Ambulance Station, but this is now due to be closed under the East Midlands Ambulance Service’s plans.
I’ve read the proposed changes and am not convinced that they will serve our area well – nor was the paramedic I talked to that night. When a stroke happens, timing is crucial: the earlier you receive treatment, the better your chances of recovery. Dad’s daily improvements are due in no small measure to the ambulance’s quick response time. If you’re worried too about how the loss of our ambulance station is going to affect our area, please voice your concern by emailing beingthebest@emas.nhs.uk or phoning 0800 907 9911. We have until December 17 to make our views felt.
