Harborough’s Royal British Legion branch receives praise during annual meeting

THE HARBOROUGH branch of the Royal British Legion was praised for its work over the past year during its annual meeting.

Branch president Andrew Granger gave his annual report at the meeting on Wednesday last week during which he commended members for their endeavours.

This included participation by the chairman John Standish and the standard bearer at the annual national conference of the Royal British Legion in Scarborough.

Other activities by the branch included work with youth groups, attending the annual Armed Forces event held in Welland Park and organising Harborough’s Remembrance events. The branch is also working with Harborough District Council to secure the future of the Remembrance portico at the Cottage Hospital and the War Memorial in the Square.

Mr Granger wished the branch success in its 90th anniversary year in 2013.

Mr Standish was re-elected as chairman with The Rev John Morley as vice-chairman.

Betty Ramsey and Myra Grewcock will continue as secretary and treasurer and committee members Brian Thomas, John Cox, David Prior and Barbara Pickup were elected.
