Kids competition to spruce up the staple sausage

CHILDREN have been challenged by Leicestershire County Council to come up with a new banger based recipe for Bonfire Night.

A competition for kids to design a new dish for the sausage hopes to get youngsters thinking about ingredients in a fun, new way to reinvent the children’s favourite.

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member, said: “It encourages our young people to make nutritious, healthy and fresh food choices.”

Competitions like this hope to provide school communities with support, advice and guidance for healthy development and growth.

The council has seen a 32 per cent popularity boost in pupils choosing school meals since reintroducing the service four years ago.

The panel of judges consists of food industry experts, including a representative from the School Food Council and a dietician, as well as pupils from Kibworth Primary School.

The winning recipe will show innovation, great taste and good nutritional value.

Competition entries can be vegetarian or meat based.

The winner will have their creation served at a special Bonfire Night school lunch to thousands of children across the UK.

Competition entries must be submitted to the pupils school office by Friday, 21st September.
