CHILDREN from Mowsley now have new play equipment thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery’s Awards For All fund.
Five climbing and scrambling playground items are now on the play area at the village’s Saddington Road rec.
The attractions, made by Playquest, were officially opened by top Harborough cyclist Vic Barnett on Sunday.
Mr Barnett, who cut the ribbon to a chorus of cheers, was given a warm welcome by the village and he said that it was great to see such a splendid playground in a small village.
Mowsley Folly Field Play Area Association applied for the lottery grant and was awarded more than £9,000 by Awards For All to spend on the new play equipment.
Children using the area now have a scrambling net, tyre traverse, clatterbridge and other equipment on which to play.
Those who gathered to celebrate the official opening were treated to a feast of cupcakes and juice.
Ros Ousey, of the association, said the climbing play equipment would be ideal for children visiting the park between ages seven to ten.
She said: “The committee was especially pleased by the Big Lottery grant as it showed, as local villager Siw Dracup remarked, that Awards For All does filter out into even the smallest of villages.”
She added that the play area is well-used by children not only from Mowsley but also from North Kilworth, Lubenham, and Saddington.
The association has been able to fully equip the park in the village by fundraising and applying for grants since 2005.
