Events gave people chance to talk about fire-service changes

Consultation events have been held in Harborough and Lutterworth over planned changes to the fire service in both towns.

Proposed changes to the service in Harborough would mean the current arrangement of two retained crews would change to one retained and one full-time crew.

In Lutterworth the crew of retained firefighters would become a crew of full-time firefighters.

Under the proposal, firefighters in full-time crews would work 24-hour periods split into 12 operational hours and 12 stand-by hours.

In Harborough, just eight people attended two consultation events held at the town’s Fairfield Road station on Thursday and Saturday last week. In Lutterworth, only nine attended events at its Gilmorton Road base last Wednesday and Saturday.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it appreciated the face-to-face comments received.

The consultation period ends on February 24.

Results and comments from the process will then be submitted to the Combined Fire Authority for its consideration.
