A FOND farewell was bade to three librarians who retired after working for libraries in Harborough for a combined total of 58 years.

Staff held a party at Harborough Library in Adam and Eve Street recently to say goodbye to Sue Jepson, Linda Loomes and Jackie Knight.

Mrs Knight started her career in 1967 as a trainee at Darwen Library in Lancashire.

She started working at Wigston Library in 1986, initially working one day a week at Harborough before becoming children’s specialist for libraries including Fleckney, Kibworth, Great Glen and the mobile unit. Her last role was as area community manager.

Mrs Jepson started at Harborough Library as a services assistant in 2006, while Mrs Loomes volunteered at the library for 21 years, last summer celebrating 20 years with a party.

Library development worker Gail Scotchbrook said: “All three ladies will be greatly missed. Sue, in particular for her wonderful sense of humour. Jackie for being not just a colleague but a great friend to everyone and for her never failing cheerfulness. And Linda for her tireless effort and willingness to help out.”
