DEVELOPERS’ plans to build homes in Fleckney have led to residents forming a group to challenge them.

Fleckney Against Development (FAD) has been set up to oppose the building of about 30 homes by developers Bellway Homes.

The developer is planning to build the homes on a site opposite Leicester Road in the village and was due to submit a planning application yesterday (Wednesday).

They held a consultation in the village on Monday September 10 to which 400 people came.

Another proposed development being opposed by FAD is plans by Western Range to build up to 60 homes off High Street on the car park site as well as land to the rear of it.

A presentation was given to Fleckney Parish Council on September 10 by Landmark Planning Ltd who are representing Western Range, which is part of the Davidsons Group.

Helen Soame is heading up the protest and said that people’s main concern is that the centre of the village cannot take any more traffic.

She said: “With the exception of two people the main concern was the roads through the centre of the village having a large volume of traffic.”

The group will be holding a residents’ meeting and will announce the date after
the application has been submitted.

A spokesman for Bellway Homes said: “We understand that the residents of Fleckney don’t believe there is a need for new housing, however the council have acknowledged that there is not enough housing land to deliver the required housing over the next five
years.

“Our proposed development will be sustainable and high quality and at only 30 homes is balanced at a scale that is in proportion to Fleckney.”

Vice-chairman of Fleckney Parish Council, Stephen Bilbie asked that people forward
letters of objection to the
parish council should they
wish to object to either development.
