Concept designs reveal plans for heritage hub

Images have been released showing how the new ‘heritage hub’ combining the library and museum could look at Harborough Council’s HQ.
The new-look facilities will be situated on the first floor of the building, which is undergoing a £5.75m refurbishment, set for completion next year.
The drawings show plans for a special children’s space in the library, covered by a wooden structure resembling an upturned boat.
A new museum display will allow visitors to walk inside Falkner’s Boot and Shoe Making Workshop – previously the exhibition sat in a more traditional display case.
A central reception area will serve both the museum and the library and there will be space set aside for computer use, temporary exhibitions and adult learning.
The Hallaton Treasure display in the museum will remain largely the same as before.
The concept drawings were released on Friday as part of a public consultation into plans for the heritage hub.
People are being asked to have their say on the designs before they are finalised.
The project is being funded through a loan from the Market Harborough and the Bowden’s Charity, as well as financial support from Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council.
District council leader Mike Rook said: “This is going to be a fabulous community resource for people of all ages.
“So take a look at the initial plans and let us know what you think.
“The plans exceed all my expectations looking back at the beginning of this journey.”
Dave Houseman, the county council’s lead member for adults and communities, said: “This is an exciting project and we have the chance to do something really special with the building.
“We want people to come into the new space and feel inspired to read, to learn and to be proud of their heritage.
“I hope people will take the opportunity to look at the plans and tell us what they think is most important for the new facility.”

They can also be see at the library’s temporary base at Millers House until February 11.
