Time is running out for young people to get their entries in for this year’s Harborough Carnival Queen contest.
The Mail has received a few entries from girls looking to be the Queen of the Carnival but the deadline for entering is fast approaching – forms must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, March 29.
The Carnival Queen has all eyes on her as the float parade moves through the town and she also makes appearances at special events throughout her year as queen.
The Carnival Queen and her Maid of Honour are selected on the basis of personality.
Carnival committee chairman John Bush said: “We are pleased to give young ladies the opportunity to be the Carnival Queen.
“The Queen will be the young lady with a bold personality, able to represent Market Harborough, not only oncarnival day but also at other events in the town by invitation throughout the following year.
“The prize will not only be the cheque on carnival day but the honour of representing the town.
“Do not be afraid to put yourself forward, you will find that your friends support you, and some may be tempted to compete against you.”
The winner will get a cash prize of £150 and the opportunity to get a professional photo shoot.
The Maid of Honour, the runner-up, will get £100.
So if you are aged 13 or over and think you would enjoy the experience, then get your entries in!
To do so send in your name, address, age, contact phone numbers and email address if applicable.
Also include a letter saying in no more than 150 words why it is you think you should be queen, to The Harborough Mail, 9 Northampton Road, Harborough, LE16 9HB.
You can also enter the competition by emailing elinor.oneill@harboroughmail.co.uk.
