Brave scouts go camping at HQ

A GROUP of young scouts have braved the foul weather at the annual Winter Camp in Gilwell Park, North East London, the headquarters of the Scout movement.

Scouts from the Leicestershire area met up with 3,000 others from across the UK for a weekend of camping and cooking outdoors, and various adventure activities.

A South Leicester Explorer Scout, said: “Winter Camp was amazing. I did loads of activities. I can’t wait to come back next year.”

The camp provides the opportunity for scouts, aged 10-18, to take part in over 70 different outdoor adventures, led by a team of 200 adult volunteers.

Chief scout Bear Grylls, an all-year round international adventurer, said: “It’s great to see so many young people enjoying such a wide range of adventures, from climbing, abseiling, quad biking and high ropes, all in January, the coldest month of the year. Go Scouts!”
