Apply for a grant from Carnival’s funding pot

Deserving groups are being urged to apply for a share of cash from this year's Harborough Carnival

Deserving groups are being urged to apply for a share of cash from this year's Harborough Carnival

BUY this week’s Mail to find out how to apply for a share of cash raised by this year’s Carnival.

Each year the Carnival Committee gives grants to deserving organisations in Harborough and the surrounding villages.

This year’s Carnival, on Saturday, June 9, suffered slightly this year from the change to school holidays prompted by the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations the weekend before.

As a result there were half the usual number of parade entries, while heavy rain in the week running up to big day led to a smaller than usual crowd turning out to enjoy the activities at the showground.

In spite of the difficulties, the event still raised £3,500 for distribution to good causes.

About £1,500 of that will be handed out to groups which helped organise the day, including the Harborough Lions, Rotary Club and Scouts. But the remaining £2,000 is up for grabs.

The committee is asking for groups to apply for a share, while readers can nominate good causes they would like to see benefit.

Tomorrow’s Mail contains more details plus an application form.

Applications must reach us by midday on Friday, September 14.
