A RECORD turnout made for a successful Carnival Fun Run on Sunday.
The event, which is in its third year after being resurrected as a carnival feature in 2007, attracted 50 runners aged between three and 14 and is set to raise more than £600 for charity.
Tracy Campe, one of the organisers, said: “The fun run was brilliant – our biggest group yet and a fantastic day was had by all. Our youngest runner was only three and managed to run the shorter race – what a brilliant kid.
“A huge thanks to John Thompson for setting up the run and getting everyone warmed-up and ready and to the St John Ambulance first-aiders for helping out on the day.”
The Mail’s mascot Harbie the Newshound started the race, which saw more than 30 children run the 860-metre course and about 20 tackling the one-kilometre route.
Prizes were donated by Waterstone’s and Midland Army and Navy store of Adam and Eve Street, Harborough, with refreshments provided by Tesco and Lidl.
The recipient of the sponsor money this year is St John Ambulance of Harborough which is raising funds to refurbish its headquarters in Abbey Street, Harborough. It will receive half of the money with the remainder going to the runners’ charities of choice.
